Note to international readers: I have no idea how to translate this into any language.

But I think asking for autographs is so, so lame. It means that you will never, NEVER be able to mingle this person in any social context, like, should you happen to bump into him randomly in the library or something. You will forever mark yourself as a “fan.” Don’t do it!

My former boyfriend Gumbo Lambrusco had a better method for mingling. One time, he was in an elevator with that guy who played Kramer on Seinfeld. This was before his racist slurs were broadcast to the world. Anyway, because of the extreme tempurature changes from going outside of the elevator going in, Gumbo suffered from some minor digestational condition, and farted on the guy who played Kramer.

That is still a thousand times more cool than asking for someone’s autograph.

There is no performer more passionate and honest than Julien Doré. He makes otherwise dull, commercial “classics” his own, turning the mundane into something unforgettable.

With his covers of Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel or Britney Spears Hit Me Baby One More Time, he challenges our collective idea of what is “right.” He sings American songs with a thick French accent and bizarre, shocking vocal stylings, breaking the rules. Isn’t it ironic that breaking the rules was once the essence of rock and roll?

YouTube Is Letting Me Down

Well, this isn’t any fun at all. I had posted two YouTube videos, or so I thought, but neither appeared, making me very cranky. So, I include links, fully recognizing that it’s not the same thing.

The first is the most accurate representation of cyclists that I’ve ever seen. Ever. Even better than Breaking Away.

And this second is frightening evidence that there are some things the French do better than we do. Or at least the Nouvelle Star band is kicks ass over the American Idol band. Well, you be the judge.
